Cogebanque has sponsored the 5th graduation ceremony of the University of Kigali and handed over laptop prizes to four best performing graduates from different departments at the University of Kigali.
The prizes giveaway took place this Friday 6th December 2019 during the 5th graduation of the University of Kigali that took place at Intare Conference Arena in Rusororo where over 1700 graduates obtained their Master degree, post-graduate diploma or bachelor’s degree from various departments.
These include Aneth Kayitesi from the School of Finance, Safari Jean Tubebamwe from the School of Computing and IT , Redempta Bisangwa from the School of Business Management and Aneth Ishimwe from the School of Law.
The support is part of existing programs to support education whereby Cogebanque has been rewarding outstanding students at different graduations of the University of Kigali over the past years.
After handing over the prizes, Seif Hamoud B.Acting, the Head Corporate Banking at Cogebanque said that the gesture is in line with the bank’s commitment to promote knowledge based society.
”Awarding best performers speaks to the importance Cogebanque attaches to education. The country is embracing a knowledge-based economy and we want to contribute to this vision. As part of our corporate social responsibility initiatives, we have demonstrably been providing support the education sector in a bid to make a meaningful and impactful contribution to promoting the social agenda,” he said.
“In addition, supporting education also boosts the development of vital skills amongst youth and therefore enhances the quality of the labour force. The choice of giving laptops to the best performers is inspired by the government’s promotion of the use of technology in all fields, and its vision of Rwanda as an ICT hub. This, Cogebanque reasons, will have wide-ranging ramifications, and everyone should contribute towards achieving this vision in their respective ways,” added Hamoud.
The University Of Kigali Board Of Directors chairman, Mr. Afrika Philbert thanked all partners including Cogebanque for sponsoring the event and assured that the University of Kigali will continue to maintain academic excellence.
He particularly thanked parents who sacrificed for students to get right education assuring them that acquired knowledge will enable them to compete at the labor market.
“I would also like to express special gratitude to graduates. It is a great day and milestone in life to celebrate. Some of you will get employed, create own businesses while others will further education at University of Kigali. We believe the university have transformed u into good citizens and made you people to making right decisions to transform the country and the society,” he said.
“We cannot succeed without good leadership. We also recognize the support of the visionary leadership enabling us to operate in a conducive environment,” emphasized Afrika.
Divine Uwase, a graduate from Business and Information Technology who spoke on behalf of all graduates expressed delight to have chosen the right university which gave her the foundation of her life promising for a brighter future.
The University of Kigali has been in operation since 2013.
