Cogebanque has sponsored the 14th graduation ceremony of the University of Lay Adventists of Kigali (UNILAK) and donated a laptop to the best performing graduate, Ange Marie Nemeyabahizi, from the department of Law.
The 14th graduation saw 678 graduates, of whom 65% are females, graduating at UNILAK from its three campuses of Rwamagana, Kigali and Nyanza.
The laptop was given to the high-fly student Thursday 17th January 2020 at UNILAK headquarters in Kigali where 678 graduates obtained Bachelor and Master’s degrees from various departments.
The support is part of existing programs to support education whereby Cogebanque has been rewarding outstanding students at different graduations of the University of Kigali and UNILAK over the past years.
In December 2019, Cogebanque rewarded four best performers at University of Kigali graduation.
Speaking after the prize give away, Songa Rwamugire, Cogebanque Head of Corporate Banking revealed that the bank has been committed to supporting the education sector in its 20 years of existence.
“Awarding best performers reflects the great relevance Cogebanque attaches to education. We have been supporting the education sector to make a meaningful and impactful contribution to promoting the social agenda as part of our corporate social responsibility initiatives,” he said.
“Our support to the education sector aligns with the country’s vision of promoting a knowledge-based economy and we are committed to keeping the support to the cause, in addition to existing partnerships with secondary and primary schools,” explained Rwamugire.
Supporting education boosts the development of vital skills among youth and therefore enhances the quality of the labour force. Therefore, Cogebanque’s choice of giving laptops to the best performers is inspired by the government’s promotion of the use of technology in all fields, and its vision of Rwanda as an ICT hub.
“Allow me to take this opportunity to wish you a happy graduation day. It is one of unique milestones after a tedious journey. Today’s success is a reward of your efforts and part of your life achievements. As you graduate, you will need more intuition and innovations to contribute to individual progress and the development of the nation in general. You will need to seize opportunities and turn challenges into opportunities.”
Currently, UNILAK has four faculties with both Bachelors degree and Masters programs in the Faculty of Law, Economic Sciences and Management, Environmental Studies, Computing and Information Sciences.
Over 13,000 have graduated at UNILAK since inception in 1997
