Following the recommendations made during the General Assembly of Rwanda Community in Darfur (Diaspora) held on 7 December 2012, the Rwanda Show Room was officially launched on 19 January 2013, by the UNAMID Force Commander Lt Gen Patrick Nyamvumba who is the Rwanda National Senior in UNAMID. During the launch, Gen. Nyamvumba underscored the importance of having the Rwanda Show-Room in UNAMID.
The Rwanda Show Room will promote investment and tourism for our country since it encompasses the showcasing of a variety of Rwandan art crafts, traditional clothes and other items that are made in Rwanda. Secondly, it will enable members of the international community within UNAMID to buy items that are made from Rwanda including, but not limited to, Rwanda tea, coffee, Akabanga, juice, honey and other such items.
Thirdly, the Rwanda Show Room will include a daily cultural display program where many people within UNAMID will be informed and exposed to the Rwandan development, culture, and its historical background. An electronic virtual tour of Rwanda is also planned as soon as possible.
In his closing remarks, the Force Commander thanked the organizers for the good work done and mentioned that due to the expected high number of UNAMID attendants(Civilians, Police and Military) to visit the Rwanda Show Room, the organizers should ensure they have enough stock of all the items that will be required.
