Friday March 30, 11am, Kicukiro, the Rwanda Bureau of Standards (RBS) will sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Southern Sudan National Bureau of Standards (SSNBS) to streamline and strengthen the two institutions’ cooperation, information and knowledge sharing. The ceremony will be held at the RBS Head Office (in Kicukiro).
The previous EAC Heads of State summit in Bujumbura, Burundi, the application by Southern Sudan to join EAC was rebuffed on grounds that it was not ready.
On 9 July 2011, Southern Sudan attained her independence to become the newest African State.
According to a press communiqué signed by RBS Director General, Dr. Mark Cyubahiro Bagabe Rwanda is better placed to the partner with Southern Sudan since both countries are relatively young and share a common history.
“We anticipate to share experiences regarding cooperating within the East African Countries’ (EAC) framework; with RBS transferring knowledge benefited from its membership to the EAC standards” Dr Mark wrote.
Southern Sudan is increasingly becoming a regional business magnate, mainly for traditional agricultural exports and food crops. It has also attracted a number of regional banks.
