Bralirwa, Rwanda’s leading brewery has announced that the prize money for Primus Guma Guma Super Star (PGGSS II) season two is Frw24 million.  Currently only 10 musicians remain in the race, down from a total of 20 entrants in the highly contested music competition.
The finale, when the winner will be announced is scheduled for Friday July 28.

Addressing members of the press at Hill-Top hotel in Remera, March 28, Jean Pierre Uwizeye, the in Charge of Marketing Primus noted that the winner will be given the amount in three installments.

“We will first issue Frw6 million after which we expect the winner to use it in producing a new song, then the remaining amount will be issued gradually as the winner continues to conduct performances in various parts of the country,” he said.

Uwizeye further added that the winner will be required to produce a song solely, unlike the in previous competition whereby the winner (Tom Close) produced a song with American musician (Sean Kingston). “We want talents of our local musician to blossom. People rarely notice Rwandan talents whenever they sing alongside renowned musicians.”

Joseph Mushyoma from the East African Promoters (EAP), an events managing company manning the competition, encouraged local musicians to be aggressive. “We want to instill the culture of performances in local musicians, a good example is a nationwide tour we intend to conduct with the 10 contestants,” said Mushyoma.

Contestants of the PGGSS season II will be judged by music professionals such as Deejays, producers and radio presenters. They are contesting in five categories including Hip-Hop, R&B, Afro beat, Female and group.
Part of the criterion for selecting the contestants is; at least one hit song produced between 2009 -2011, aged 18 and above. The applicant must also be pursuing his/her career in Rwanda.
