Very soon, Rwanda’s Telecom Sector will officially usher in yet another heavyweight—Bharti Airtel, whose launch is scheduled for Friday March 30, 2012 from 10:00hrs to 12:30hrs at Airtel Rwanda Headquarters, near Amohoro Stadium – REMERA

From the look of things, there are already shivers running down the spines of competitors and changing faces in Kigali City and other towns across the country from the usual telecom branding we’re accustomed to a bit of Red and White.

Bharti Airtel is one of the top five global mobile telecom operators in the world, with operations in 19 countries across Asia and Africa, with headquarters in New Delhi, India.

Airtel Rwanda will be the company’s 17th operation in Africa.
In October last year, Airtel was awarded the license to operate 2G and 3G GSM mobile services in Rwanda, and is now set to expand its footprint in Africa.

In an email exchange with Natasha Jamal, a Senior Account Manager at Hill+Knowlton Strategies, the Media Agency for Bharti Airtel in East Africa region, she confirmed that  Mr. Manoj Kohli, the CEO of Bharti Airtel (International) and Joint Managing Director will attend the launch. Other invited guests are top Rwanda government officials, heads of public and private institutions, media and the general public.

Airtel offers mobile voice and data services, fixed line, high speed broadband, IPTV, DTH, turnkey telecom solutions for enterprises and national and international long distance services to carriers.

Bharti Airtel is ranked among the six best performing technology companies in the world by business week Bharti Airtel had over 244 million customers across its operations at the end of January 2012.
Airtel has established strong regional (EAC) presence in; Uganda, Kenya, Tanzania and now in Rwanda.
