Bank of Kigali and solar company Mobisol have joined hands to light 500 homes in Rukomo sector in Nyagatare district.
Mobisol won a tender to supply Bank of Kigali with solar power equipment for the housed of families in ubudehe category 1. According to BK’s Chief Commercial Officer, Vicent Gatete, the decision to connect the homes came from the district and sector leaders.
“This year Bank of Kigali is celebrating 50 years of existence, and in that context we also want to give back to the community. So we approached authorities at different levels and Nyagatare District emerged as one of the projects,” Gatete explained, adding the bank wants to do more for the district.
“We welcome any suggestion from district authorities on where the bank can help,” he said. “We are already planning to come back for umuganda.”
Mobisol’s Head of Corporate and Government Donations, Louis Rwagaju, said the solar company has managed to connect 500 households in 11 sectors of Nyagatare district.
“We managed to cover the entire district because of the support we got from Bank of Kigali,” he said, calling upon all the beneficiaries to take good care of the equipment which consists of a solar panel, three lights plus a charger that can charge two mobile phones per day.
Mobisol has promised to repair or replace any equipment in case of problems free of charge.
The vice-mayor of Nyagatare District, Didas Rutayisire, thanked Bank of Kigali and Mobisol for taking the lead in supporting the government’s program to electrify the whole country.
