The annual Kwita Izina events will kick off on 26th August with a black-tie gala dinner at the Kigali Convention Centre.
This was announced on Tuesday by the Chief Tourism Officer at the Rwanda Development Board, Belise Kariza, during a press conference which also featured musician The Ben, who will perform at the event.
The gala dinner will be a fundraising event kicking off the week-long Kwita Izina celebrations, with the objective of supporting ongoing conservation projects, specifically the expansion of the gorilla habitat. It will therefore be an exclusive event, with single tickets costing $120 (Rwf 99,600) while a table for ten goes for $1,000 (Rwf 830,000). There will be great entertainment, auctioning and raffle prizes.
“I am excited to perform at the gala dinner and spread the message on the importance of conservation," The Ben said. “Let's support Kwita Izina events because they are aligned with our country's sustainable development.”
Other events during the week are the Conservation and Tourism Exhibition (27th-28th August), the Conversation on Conservation conference (28th-29th August) and of course the actual Gorilla Naming Ceremony on September 1st, during which 19 gorilla babies will receive a name.
