Airtel Rwanda staff commemorate genocide at Kicukiro-Nyanza site

Airtel staff Walk to Remember as they commemorate Rwandans who lost their lives during the 1994 genocide against the Tutsis.

To commemorate of the 1994 genocide against the Tutsis, Airtel Staff have donated money for the refurbishment of the Kicukiro-Nyanza Genocide Memorial Site.

The commemoration exercise started off with a Walk to Remember from Eto Kicukiro to the Nyanza memorial site where thousands of Tutsis were slaughtered. The Airtel Rwanda staff also toured the Memorial site where the victims have been laid to rest, and were educated about the history of the area before and after the genocide.

“We join the rest of Rwanda in remembering those murdered in the 1994 genocide against the Tutsis. We must come together to fight genocide ideology, and one of the tools to do that is to commemorate,” said Airtel Rwanda Legal Director Brian Kirungi.

Brian Kirungi, Airtel Rwanda Legal Director, said Rwandans should all fight against genocide ideology, among others through the commemoration.

“We pledge our support to assist the genocide survivors in any possible way so we can uplift them to see a better tomorrow,” he added.

The Airtel staff also made a donation to the Memorial site.

Naphtal Ahishakiye, the Executive Secretary Ibuka, thanked Airtel Staff for their act of love and for devoting their time to come and commemorate with other Rwandans in this trying period.

More than one million Rwandans died in the hundred days of the genocide. It was one of the darkest times in human history. 23 years later, Rwandans ask the world to unite to remember the lives that were lost.
