A Dutch delegation led by Marjolijn Sonnema, the director general for agriculture and nature at the ministry of economic affairs in the Netherlands, has concluded a two-day visit to Rwanda that aimed at exploring potential agricultural investment opportunities.
The mission was mainly interested in possible areas of collaboration between the Netherlands and Rwanda in the horticulture sector through The Dutch Topteam Horticulture and Starting Materials sector, which seeks for solutions that contribute to food safety and security, quality, health and prudent management of raw materials, the environment and biodiversity.
During their mission, the delegation visited, among others, the Urwibutso factory of businessman Gerard Sina, Sopyrwa pyrethrum factory, RwadaFresh as well as the National Agricultural Export Development Board (NAEB).
The Netherlands has expertise in the area of extraction of plant materials which can provide opportunities for innovation and business development in the Rwandan horticulture sector. It is also expected that they can contribute to develop cool chain management to reduce the losses still existing in post-harvest systems.
